Defending the Caveman

On Sunday we went with friends, Lynn and Fred to see the play in Atlanta. We had a great day, the play was hysterical and afterwards we actually went to an upscale restuarant named Einsteins that served an incredible (even rare) burger for....(get this)....$5!!! It blew us all away, it was cheaper then fast food and came with great sides, like sweet potato fries, or black beans and rice, etc. The place was very cool looking, right next to the theater and a good time was had by all. On the way home we stopped at the Atlanta Farmers Market, an amazing place and a true find for its savings. Anyway we had a terrific day with our new friends. So it was a truly fabulous weekend. Now monday night we have a dinner for eight. I've been here only 9 months now and I feel right at home here, SC is full of very special people.

A Field trip for Grown-ups, what fun!

On Saturday our activity group, of which nine of the twelve couples came, had a ball. We all carpooled to Dillard, Ga and ate ate the Historic Dillard House and then went to The Foxfire Museum, from the famous Foxfire books on living in the Appalacian mountains and times. It was a terrific day with a terrific group of new friends. The 12 of us couples will get together once a month for 2 years to do fun activities and trips and get to know each other better. It was a group we signed up for with the Newcomers Group, so everyone is a transplant and we are all interested in learning all the neat things to do in our area. It is a very cool concept and we enjoyed the day and all the new friends tremendously.

Ken's son is off to South Korea...

Shaun is leaving at the end of the month to teach English in S. Korea. We've been enjoying his company for dinner most nights as he has given up his place in Atlanta and is working with Ken until he leaves. It has been fun to cook for more then two and we will really miss him, but we are excited for him too as he is very happy for this International opportunity.

Although the leaves are gone the weather has still been nice enough to play golf and hike. It was actually 68 this weekend. We are enjoying going out with friends and I am blessed by great golfing buddies, so this is really feeling like home now. In March it will be 2 years since I left Alaska and one since I moved here and off the boat. Time really does fly. It's been a very eventful 2 years. On Sunday I went with my book club to Menapause the Musical in Atlanta, what a blast with 26 of us.

Also my good friend Annie from Manteo, NC was here and we enjoyed a great visit, we've stayed friends for the year since I left Manteo at Christmas time 2005. Again it was hard to believe how quickly time had passed. I guess that is the thing I notice the most recently as days melt into weeks into months....... Anyway it was so great to see her again. We met in Atlanta and did the Merchandise Mart, seeing all the new vendors and shopping for her shop, while visions of a storefront danced in my head too. I still miss running a Gallery, but love the freedom of not having a storefront too.... I am horribly divided on which I want more, but I am enjoying the time to write too. Mostly I think it is just habit that makes me want to run a store, for a very long time the Gallery was my identity.
